Ms Charlotte’s Top 5 Books to Read for Preschoolers

Hi! I am Ms Charlotte and I love reading books to my preschoolers to instil a love of reading. Along with that, reading also helps with a child’s cognitive development in so many ways – it helps spark their imagination and stimulates curiosity, helps them get to know sounds, words and language, and develop early literacy skills.

Here are my top 5 favourite books and my reasons why they make great reading.

5) The Creature Choir by David Walliams

Join Warble the walrus and his friends as they sign their hearts out. This story has a great moral about being happy whatever you do even if you are not good at it.

4) Press Here by Hervé Tullet

This is a fun interactive book that the children will want to read over and over again. They will love to see the magic contained in the book.

3) The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! by Mo Williams

This is a wonderful series of books about a pigeon and its adventures. Some of his other titles are ‘The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog’ and ‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!’. They make me and the children laugh especially if you give the characters voices.

2) Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy

This story encourages your child to use their imagination. It is a beautiful story of a bear flying to the moon.

1) Dirty Bertie by David Roberts

This is a fun story that will see the children laughing and you reading it over and over again. This book uses repeated refrains and rhyming words which help the children to remember the story and soon they will start to read the story with you.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss
